Our thoughts

Twelve14 studios is proud to announce the new Brand identity for Amani International Coffeehouse & Cafe. Working with Terra Jones, the owner of the Northside Cafe we were able to create a unique identity for this up and coming coffeehouse.

The Coffeehouse is located in the historic Deutschtown in Pittsburgh, PA. One patron said “They feature local artists on the walls, serve as a meeting place for various community groups and have the best collection of community fliers anywhere on the Northside (advertising everything from items for sale to Film Fests to graphic designers to events at the New Hazlett Theater or Benedum.” The coffeehouse serves up a great selection of lattes, wraps, pannis and a great chicken salad! All brews at Amani are organic and Fair Trade certified.

Terra Plans on moving to a more prime location where she will begin to roast her own coffee beans.

Thoughts behind the Brand Identity:

  • - Amani means peace in Swahilli so we tried to convey that in the design.
  • - The colors and fonts were chosen to showcase the origins of the name.
  • - Inside the circle you will find three coffee beans representing the roasting of the bean.
  • - The logo as a whole is a turtle that represents strength and persistence. Terra expressed how her coffee shop was like a turtle, “slow and steady wins the race”, since she is competing with the bigger name coffeehouses near her neighborhood.

Amani International Coffeehouse and Café

“Amani is committed to helping improve the way of life of those men, women, and some very young children who pick the coffee beans you and I drink. Amani will serve only organic, fair trade, and above fair trade coffees. This means, my coffee distributor will purchase coffee at the minimum fair trade value. Whenever possible, this minimum purchasing cost will be exceeded resulting in the sale of above fair trade coffee. and remember every battle is won or lost in your own mind.”

Amani International Coffeehouse and Café

“When thinking of a true coffeehouse words such as serenity, quiet, and peacefulness immediately come to mind. Thus, Amani International Coffeehouse & Cafe was born. The name Amani means peace in the African language of Swahili. It was important to have a name that speaks a universal language and has the ability to connect a multi-cultural community. Amani believes its purpose is to unite cultures through one cup. ”
